The 5 C's of Teamwork

This article discusses the 5 C's of teamwork which include communication, cooperation, contribution, compromise and commitment. The first and possibly the most important out of these is communication as communication is something that can essentially make or break a team. Communication must be involved in every task that is being conducted under a team setting, as a lack of communication can result in demotivation within a team. The second C is cooperation, which is essential for the success of any team because if a team can work well together, it is likely that they will achieve great results. Although, there may be times where some individuals within a group do not cooperate well with each other, but in times like this it is important to put differences aside and complete the task at hand. The third C is contribution. Each member of the team should understand their role in the group as well as how their role will benefit the group. It is also important to make sure that team members hold each other accountable so that the entire team can perform to the best of their ability. The fourth C is compromise which means that all of us are not the same and have different work routines, but the others in the group need to understand that and not pressure their peers to perform better. All that the team has to do is communicate with each other to get on the same page and proceed from there. The fifth and final C is commitment which is very important for the success of a team. A lack of commitment can leave gaps within a team, which is only a recipe for failure. Each member of the group must feel as if their role is extremely valued so that they will continue to stay motivated and contribute to the groups success.

This article applies to me personally as I have worked in many teams where communication is not a priority for some people, which made doing work within that team extremely difficult. I have also been a part of teams where I do not get along with some of the others in the group, but I do my best to understand that we are all on the same team, striving for the same purpose. There have also been many groups that I've been in where everyone understood their task at hand which allowed us to perform at a very efficient rate. A struggle that I have came across while in working in teams is that many individuals have a lack of commitment. This makes it difficult to perform tasks when I need assistance from others in the group but are typically unresponsive, which is why communication may be the most important C out of the 5 that are listed.
